In December I had the pleasure of launching one of my favourite websites to date, for my beautiful school friend turned Elopement photographer Jess Smith.

Jess and I have been friends for over 10 years now and watching her grow her own business and discover her passion for photography has been amazing. She also has done two amazing brand photoshoots for me – and guys, she’s crazy talented.

To say I was excited when she reached out for a potential website was an understatement; knowing Jess, her beautiful work and her ambitious goals for her side-hustle-turned-business, I knew that we would make magic. And if I do say so myself, we didn’t disappoint.

Mini-brand

For this project, Jess opted to add-on a mini brand. A mini-brand add-on allows me to help you select your colours and typography for the project. It’s essentially a stripped-down version of my full branding package only available for semi and custom website packages for those who struggle to pick their own colours and fonts.

It’s also a great starting place for newer businesses, who are still working out their brand strategy and trying to find their own style. The ability to have my expert eye looking into your business and using my own knowledge of colour psychology can be invaluable.

Below are the three colour palettes we initially made for Jess, followed by the colour palette we ended up with, which turned out to be a mix.

Looking at Jess’ photography and editing style, I think the colours reflect exactly the type of moody, playful and boho style.

Next, we worked on the typography selection. Typography can make the biggest impact on your designs. We wanted the overall design to feel soft, feminine but also boho and fun.

Custom Showit Website Design

Once the mini-brand was completed, we began designing and developing Jess’ website. The colours and fonts looked beautiful and complemented her photography so nicely.

We used my signature website strategy framework to plan out Jess’ pages, layout and any additional freebie funnels or additional offers she needed. We also mapped out her SEO plan, blogging content ideas and launch plan.
